Area Police
Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack left him without words and required to be solved promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of foreign heritage in five years prior.
