2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Shift Comes After Poor Response
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's lackluster early showing last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer informed team members about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a more defined direction.
The president noted that the developers is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to better meet player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement follows a comparable step taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the entire message from Ismailer's announcement:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just wrapped up your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”
With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last fall’s the game demo was informative. It validated the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It revealed the need for a sharper brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the feedback to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our fans.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the remarkable advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce the new hire as the incoming Director of 31st Union. Following some time of discussions, Ben starts with us on the specified date.
Ben’s guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having dedicated the past decade and a half producing and managing some of the most popular series in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in receiving him soon. We are all eager to persist witnessing the development of the game in the weeks to come.
The President
